When you call the office during office hours there will be no recording to navigate only real people to take your call, with a real concern for your health and well-being. All phone calls will be returned promptly, but if you deem your problem “urgent” we will make every effort to speak to you at the time of your call.
This allows easy and direct communications for urgent medical problems that occur outside of my regular office hours. We will use my reasonable best efforts to be available to hear from you when you are ill or injured, to coordinate your care. For emergencies, however, always call 911 first.
In most instances you will be seen by Dr. Kahl or Dr. Ziegler the physicians who know you and your medical history best. This helps to ensure continuity of care while working toward your health goals.
You will receive a prompt response from your physician (usually within 24 hours). Because email communication is not always secure, please use discretion when choosing topics to discuss via this platform. Your patient portal is the best way to communicate securely and confidentially.
Office visits will start promptly. Appointments will generally be scheduled for approximately 30 minutes, for office visits, but a Comprehensive Annual Health Assessment will be scheduled for approximately 60 minutes. Our aim is to afford you the time to thoroughly address all your questions and concerns, regardless of the reason for your visit.

Dr Kahl has served as the Chief Consultant on Operational Medicine for integrated Medical Operations at DHHQ in the office of the Air Force Surgeon General, in this role Dr. Kahl develops and shapes policy involving embedded medical care, in the realms of Medical Quality Assurance, Clinical Quality Management, Health Information Technology, Preventive Medicine, Population Health, Chronic Disease Management, and Aerospace Medicine. Dr. Kahl provides subject matter expert advice and consultation to senior Defense officials, Congress, and other Department of Defense stakeholders to support the MHS’s $53 billion budget that serves more than 9.6 million beneficiaries including active-duty Service members, retirees and their families, while continuing to practice full scope family and flight medicine as a staff air force board certified family physician.
Prior to this assignment, Dr. Kahl served as the Chief Flight Surgeon at the Pentagon Aerospace Medicine Clinic, where he served five years as the physician to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a clinical consultant to the CSAF, the CSO and the SECAF, on travel and integrative medicine as well as pandemic mitigation at home and abroad.
In this role, Dr. Kahl has accompanied the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to Iraq and Afghanistan on dozens of successful foreign policy engagement missions, providing immediate contingency trauma medical support to the Chairman and his team.
Dr. Kahl ‘s works with Dr. Hakima Amri at the department of Biophysics at Georgetown University’s Integrative Medicine program, and now volunteers as adjunct faculty. He also serves as an assistant professor at USU for the aerospace medicine clinical clerkship at the Pentagon, and teaches integrative pain management and acupuncture at Walter Reed Medical Center’s Intrepid Center of Excellence. In this endeavor Dr. Kahl has worked to bridge his Georgetown Program in Integrative Health Sciences with WRMC to research and implement emerging wellness initiatives that slow and prevent chronic diseases of the mind and body.
Dr. Kahl also has volunteered for years as an advisory board member at TeamRWB, a military 501c3 whose sole purpose is enriching the lives of military members and their families through fitness, social engagements and community initiatives that seek to reduce depression and suicide in veteran populationsin this effort he has raised nearly a quarter million dollars for veteran’s health and TeamRWB.
Dr. Kahl graduated summa cum laude from the University of West Florida, where he conducted research in immunological cell signaling in Lymphoma cell lines, and earned his bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology. He then earned his medical degree from the University Of Florida College Of Medicine, and afterwards completed his medicine residency at St. Louis University. Colonel Kahl then completed his aerospace medicine studies, and flight training, at Fort Sam Houston at Brooks Air Force Base, earning his wings as a Flight Surgeon.
On completion of residency, Col Kahl was assigned for one year, as an Emergency physician at OSAN AFB Korea. Next, to serve as a family medicine physician at Aviano AFB Italy, where he was also one of the physicians for NASA’s Transoceanic Abort Landing (TAL) contingency operation in Zaragoza Spain and part of MedFlag operations in Bamako, and Timbuktu Mali.
Afterwards, Dr. Kahl was then asked to stand up the first SME at the 99th ARS where he was the Chief Flight Surgeon. During this time, he served several tours as a flight surgeon in OEF/OIF including staffing field clinics and flying with aircrews in combat support sorties over Iraq and Afghanistan, and North Africa.
Dr. Kahl been at the tip of the spear in the fight against COVID 19, for the last year, orchestrating thousands of COVID 19 testing procedures over a several platforms including molecular based, NAAT, PCR, and antigen assay technologies. All of this while maintaining privileges as a family medicine physician at various clinics throughout the NCR including the J-SMAC and White House Medical Unit.
While assigned to the DOD Pandemic Task force, he alsochampioned the (SABR) task force, a think tank including Bio-Environmental Engineers, Microbiologists, Infectious Disease Physicians and Senior Aviation expert pilots, that research and test (Surface and Airborne Biohazard Reduction Strategies).
Colonel Kahl has authored several articles and publications on various topics including Aerospace medicine, diet, fitness and sleep performance. He has is also the author of numerous medical op-eds concerning mental health, occupational health,integrative medicine and infectious disease.
Dr. Kahl lives has lived in Georgetown, with his wife and two amazing daughters.
